The writer and columnist Moisés Naím assured that for many years the strategy of the Russian government has been to create discord and chaos in Western countries for its own benefit.
“For Putin, sowing discord, chaos, undermining democracy, preventing democracies from working properly, preventing free elections from being credible, it’s all part of the Kremlin’s strategy,” he said in an interview with Radio Rivadavia from Argentina.
He explained that President Vladimir Putin was threatened by the possibility of a Ukraine completely free and united to the Western world, because this feeling might spread to its own citizens. Something that would explain the decision to invade the neighboring country.
“Although Putin may win some cities in Ukraine, Russia will lose because the sanctions that are being imposed on the country will impoverish its citizens. They are going to lose everything they had gained in the last few years. Surely the point will come when people take to the streets and Putin will savagely crack down on them,” he noted.
Naim pointed out that the Russian forces have shown a lack of logistics and organization, which has allowed the Ukrainian people to delay the advance of the troops.
“The Russian soldiers were given only two days’ supplies of water, food and fuel, because they thought they were going to come and rampage. They also wore parade uniforms because they believed that in a few days they would hold a military parade to celebrate,” the international politics specialist said of the Kremlin’s expectations at the time of declaring war on Ukraine.
