Southwest Airlines announces measures to improve customer experience 2024-08-02 03:57:56

Southwest Airlines Co. unveiled new initiatives that will improve customer experience and boost financial performance.

Southwest is advancing its strategic plans in this regard through various actions. For example, it is assigning seats and offering premium seats. It is also redesigning its boarding model and introducing night flights.

The airline expects that, in addition to meeting customer demand, the new amenities will generate additional revenue and strengthen its finances.

Premium Seats and More

Southwest has decided to allocate seats and offer premium seating options on all flights. The airline is confident that these improvements will meet expectations and will not compromise the airline’s operational efficiency.

Several surveys conducted by the airline indicate that 80% of its customers and 86% of potential customers prefer assigned seating. In addition to assigned seating, Southwest will offer a premium section of the cabin with more legroom.

Southwest revealed that it is adding 24-hour operating capabilities following the introduction of night flights. In fact, reservations are already available through Southwest.com.

The first overnight flights will reportedly land on Valentine’s Day 2025 in five initial nonstop markets. These are Las Vegas to Baltimore and Orlando; Los Angeles to Baltimore and Nashville; and Phoenix to Baltimore.

Southwest plans to add additional late-night flights to the airline’s upcoming schedule as part of its multi-year transformation to a 24-hour operation.

Overnight flights, coupled with continued reductions in turnaround time through new technologies and procedures, provide significant revenue and cost savings. Southwest will fund the new capacity over the next three years without any incremental capital expenditures on aircraft.
