Southport: Prosecution of a 17-year-old for the murder of three children – Far-right incidents 2024-08-04 06:48:58

Hundreds of protesters took part in the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration in Whitehall on Wednesday evening following the tragic knife attack in which three children were killed and eight others injured in Southport.

More than 100 people were arrested at the demonstration, where the crowd was heard chanting “Make Britain” and “we want our country back”.

Scenes of violent unrest also broke out in Manchester Hartlepool overnight, where police made several arrests and a car was set on fire, and in Manchester, a demonstration in Aldershot saw a tense standoff with riot police.

Merseyside Police have made a fifth arrest following the violent disturbance in Southport on Tuesday night, which saw a mob throw bricks and bottles outside a mosque.

Police accused people outside the Merseyside community of using lies and misinformation about the identity of the knifeman in Monday’s attack “to bring violence and disorder to our streets”.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be legally named because of his age, was charged with three counts of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed object. He will appear in court on Thursday.
