Phil Foden has left the England national team camp following he tested positive for the Coruna virus, while doubts swirl regarding Raheem Sterling’s participation in the Nations League match once morest Hungary.
Gareth Southgate has confirmed Foden will not be available for Saturday’s meeting at the Puskas Arena, as well as Tuesday’s trip to Germany, but the Three Lions coach hopes the midfielder can be back in the squad in time to face Italy within seven days from now.
Sterling, who was one appearance away from winning his 75th cap, has also missed several days of training since joining the squad at St George’s Park due to illness, and Southgate says he will make a late decision on whether to include the winger in England’s opening game of the tournament.
Southgate said in his pre-match press conference: “It has unfortunately been proven injured Phil Foden Corona virus, so he had to leave.”
“I hope he can join us once more when we come back from Germany.”
And regarding Rahim, he added: “Sterling missed two days of training due to illness. We will assess whether we will involve him tomorrow, but the rest of the players are available for the match.”
