Thailand, a perennial favorite among travelers, is also investing heavily in its airports. Phuket International Airport, a key gateway to the country’s southern islands, is undergoing a significant expansion.
The project involves the construction of a new international terminal, aimed at increasing the airport’s capacity to handle 12.5 million passengers per year. Expected to be operational in 2024, the new terminal will offer improved facilities and a more comfortable travel experience for visitors.
“Phuket is a vital part of Thailand’s tourism industry,” explains Kittipong Kittikachorn, Phuket Airport Director. “This expansion will ensure that the airport can keep pace with the growing demand and continue to provide a world-class experience for tourists.”
The expansion will also include upgrades to existing infrastructure, such as the runway and taxiways, to improve efficiency and safety.
Connecting Indonesia’s Potential
Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, is also recognizing the importance of robust air connectivity. Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport in Malang, East Java, is poised for a major transformation with a new terminal and expanded facilities.
Slated to be operational in 2026, the project will increase the airport’s capacity to 4 million passengers annually. “This upgrade is essential to support the growth of tourism and economic activity in East Java,” states Syaiful Anwar, General Manager of Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport. ” The new terminal will create a more modern and efficient airport experience for passengers.”
The expansion will not only benefit travelers but also contribute to the development of the region’s economy.
