Jung Yoo-Jung, 23, told police that she killed her victim “out of curiosity”, being obsessed with the idea of ”trying murder”, reports BBC News.

She used a dating app to contact her victim, an English teacher.

The Crown asked for the death penalty, but ultimately life imprisonment was chosen by the judge as the most appropriate sentence.

During the trial, Ms. Jung claimed in court that she searched for a victim “for months” using a mobile English tutoring app.

It was finally in May that her attention was focused on a 26-year-old English teacher living in Busan, whom she killed by stabbing her more than 100 times.

She then dismembered her victim and took a taxi to dump the woman’s remains near a river north of the city.

When she confessed in June to having committed the murder, the accused mentioned that “true crime” television series would have inspired her actions.

According to authorities, the defendant’s browsing history showed searches over several months regarding murders and how to dispose of a body.

It was the taxi driver who first alerted the police.

Ms. Jung was also caught on surveillance cameras disposing of the victim’s body.

When the judge handed down his sentence Friday, he said the killing “spread fear in society that a person might be a victim of murder for no reason.”
