Foreign Minister Park Jin, U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blincoln, and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi discussed ways to collaborate on North Korea’s seventh nuclear test during a three-way foreign ministers’ meeting on the same day.

The Korea-U.S.-Japan foreign ministers meeting was held in Bali, Indonesia, where the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting was held in July, regarding two months following the meeting.

During the meeting, which lasted regarding an hour, the ministers of South Korea, the United States and Japan agreed to further strengthen trilateral cooperation on pending issues such as the North Korean nuclear program.

After the meeting, Minister Park met with reporters and introduced, “We talked regarding the need for close coordination between South Korea, the US and Japan and preparations for a decisive response to the threat of North Korea’s use of nuclear weapons.”

When asked if there had been any evaluation of the Korea-Japan summit meeting the day before, Minister Park replied, “There is an evaluation that it was very meaningful in many ways and that it served as a good opportunity to improve relations between Korea and Japan.”

Meanwhile, in his remarks on the same day, Secretary Blincoln pointed out that South Korea, the US and Japan have been cooperating in a bilateral form, but recently, trilateral cooperation has been intensifying.

He also emphasized the need for trilateral cooperation not only on regional security issues but also on global issues as well as regional security issues.

“From the perspective of the United States, the cooperation of the three countries is very important,” Blincoln said.
