South Dakota Women’s Cross Country Team Shines at Mount Marty Invitational

YANKTON, S.D.—Fourth-year junior McKenna Herrmann paced the Coyotes at the Mount Marty Invitational held at Fox Run Golf Course on Saturday morning.

Herrmann, who missed last cross country season due to injury, led South Dakota with a third-place individual finish. She completed the 6,000-meter course in a season-best time of 23:53.58.

Freshmen Taylor Byerley and Thea Chance were up next for the Yotes. Byerley placed fifth with a time of 24:35.62. Chance, returning to her hometown to race on Saturday, took 11th with a time of 25:07.34. Both times were season bests.

Fifth-year senior middle distance runner Madison Jochum joined the cross country squad for the meet. Jochum crossed the finish line in 15th with a time of 26:01.06. Fourth-year junior Karlee Phillips took 17th in a season-best 26:14.22.

South Dakota sent a small contingent of women to Yankton for the race, with the group finishing in third place in the team scoring.

The postseason is up next for the Coyote harriers with the Summit League Championships scheduled for 11 a.m. next Saturday in Brookings, South Dakota.
