The South Asian Football Federation (SAF) has announced the postponement of the championship scheduled in Bangladesh in September this year for one year due to the corona virus.
The meeting of the federation was held online under the chairmanship of General Secretary Anwarul Haq Hilal and an important decision was taken.
Anwarul Haq Hilal said regarding the meeting that “we discussed with the representatives of the member countries and the calendar of SAAF was discussed”.
He said that ‘we have decided to postpone the tournament scheduled for this year in Dhaka for one year and the new schedule will be discussed in the next meeting’.
Secretary Saaf said that ‘we will decide in September regarding other tournaments, we will review the situation of corona virus’.
He said that ‘if possible, we will arrange to hold other junior tournaments in December, otherwise we will postpone it to next year’.
It should be noted that due to the corona virus, the competitions of other sports including football have been delayed around the world since March this year, however, the matches of several major European football tournaments have started again.
In Asian countries, the situation has not returned to normal due to Covid-19 due to which sports activities have also been suspended.
The host Bangladesh announced the postponement of this year’s domestic football matches at the end of March, apart from football, cricket and other sports are also suspended.
It should be noted that SAFF Championship 2020 was scheduled from September 19 to September 30 in Bangladesh.
Maldives is the tournament champion who will remain the champion for another year.
