South Africa: The Orlando Pirates hit by a big fine

The Orlando Pirates have been fined following trying to unsettle their opponent just before a game by illegally watering the lawn.

The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that the Orlando Pirates have been fined R50,000 for illegally watering the pitch ahead of their game once morest the Golden Arrows. The Buccaneers have been accused of watering the pitch at Orlando Stadium once morest regulations before the DStv Premiership tie kicked off. PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that the Pirates pleaded guilty to this charge on Friday, January 27.

Under the terms of the sentence, half of the fine was suspended for a period of 12 months, provided they were not found guilty of the same offense during the period of suspension. The Buccaneers picked up a 3-1 win on the day, ending the club’s three-game losing streak in the league. José Riveiro’s men will resume the championship this Saturday evening with a trip to Marumo Gallants.
