South Africa’s Orlando Pirates football club has appointed Spaniard José Riveiro as their head coach.
The Pirates report that Riveiro has signed a three-year contract.
Riveiro told the club’s website that he was delighted to join the club.
He says he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“First off, I want to say hello to all the Orlando Pirates fans. I am delighted to have joined the club. The Pirates project is exciting and I look forward to what awaits me. It is an honor for me and my colleagues to have the responsibility to lead such an institution and to compete for the highest goals. »
A modern and progressive coach whose philosophy is to play exciting and attacking football, Riveiro, 46, will join the squad for pre-season once all the relevant paperwork has been processed.
Mr Riveiro said he had no illusions regarding the high expectations that come with the job, especially in this season when the club will celebrate its 85th anniversary.
“Along with my support team, we are looking forward to arriving and joining the task force and the player group to start working immediately. »
“We will work to write history together and build a team that we will all be proud of,” he added.
Riveiro’s last stint as a coach was at FC Inter Turku where he led the Blacks and Blues from 2019 to 2021.
The new coach will be assisted by Sergio Almenara and Mandla Ncikazi. Miguel Bellver Esteve as physical trainer and Tyron Damons as goalkeeper coach.
