Sources: America proposed to transfer Turkey S-400 missile systems to Ukraine

The sources told Archyde.com that US officials presented the proposal to their Turkish counterparts last month, but no specific or official request was made.

The sources added that this proposal was briefly discussed during a visit Wendy Sherman, Deputy Secretary of State to Turkey earlier this month.

The administration of President Joe Biden has asked allies using Russian-made equipment and systems, including the S-300 and S-400, to consider moving them to Ukraine as it tries to fend off Russian military operations which started on February 24.

The idea, which analysts said Turkey would almost certainly reject, was part of a broader discussion between Sherman and Turkish officials regarding how the United States and its allies might do more to support Ukraine and how to improve bilateral relations.

The Turkish authorities have not commented on any US proposal regarding the transfer S-400 . Systems Ankara is owned by Ukraine and has long been a point of contention between the two NATO allies.
