Samsung brought the new Sound Tower model to Brazil in March 2023. The MX-ST45B arrived with the promise of combining mobility with powerful sound, as well as extra features to enhance the experience.
Does the brand’s new portable speaker deliver what it promises and deliver a good sound experience? What features does it offer in general? TudoCelular tells you everything in this complete review.
design and connectivity
No wonder this product is called Sound Tower. The box comes in a triangular tower format, which favors user immersion. That’s because there are speakers on two sides of the product, for bi-directional sound.
At the top are some buttons to control the speaker. Here we see the power button, the one to toggle the box’s RGB lights, the source button to change the audio source, a key to play or pause the music, the volume and Bass buttons, to activate the power boost feature. serious.
Here are also some LEDs to indicate the source of reproduction, either via Bluetooth, auxiliaries or USB, in addition to the light that indicates the amount of battery. At 100% or when plugged in, it will turn blue. Over the course of use on the charge, it stays green. When it is unloading, it will change to red. Too bad there’s no display here, which might help manage which features are and are not enabled.
On the back are the ports, the connector for the power cable and three other buttons. The first one serves to activate Bluetooth when pairing with your cell phone or PC. The second lets you add a second Sound Tower if you want stereo sound. And the third can connect up to 10 units wirelessly.
Just below, there is a “hidden” compartment, where you have access to the connections of this model. The auxiliaries are divided into one with a P2 cable and another of the component type. This is also where the USB port is located, if you prefer to plug in a pen drive with your favorite songs.
Overall, the construction pleases and passes good durability, without exaggerating the weight. He has 8 kilos, in addition to a height that reaches just over 56 cm. It doesn’t have such a portable size, but it offers good mobility, even more so with the hand support behind to facilitate locomotion.
Another factor that helps with resistance is the IPx5 certification, which guarantees protection once morest water jets. In other words, you can use it near a pool or bathtub, without so much fear of damaging your speaker.
The MX-ST45B is accompanied by a remote control, which has all the buttons present in the box, but to activate the remote controls. Another possibility is in the Samsung Sound Tower Giga application. It can be installed on your phone to fine-tune the box’s additional features and even serve as a controller replacement.
sound quality
The Sound Tower MX-ST45B has a total power of 160W RMS when plugged in. If you want to use it wirelessly, the box allows you to reach 80W. It contains two woofers and two tweeters, one on each side, to generate high immersion. We use it both ways and we can say that the half offered in the battery will be more than enough to have a decent volume.
In any case, this product impresses with its sound quality. It is no wonder that Samsung has important brands in the segment for its portfolio, such as AKG, Harman and JBL. The expertise was competently added to the Korean’s own brand products.
This Sound Tower delivers undistorted sound at maximum, meaning frequencies remain well defined and clean. We also felt a favorable balance between bass, mids and highs, regardless of the music genre listened to.
If you have a device that supports Dolby Atmos, you can still activate it to reinforce the bass and treble, if you want something more full-bodied and with an emphasis on the instruments. However, the voice can be a little behind in this configuration.
extra features
MX-ST45B even provides some extra features to the user. One of them is in the management of the RGB LEDs. There are five presets, each with a different transition. Through the app, you can also set a fixed color or let them adapt to the music being played.
Another feature present here is the Bass Booster. The resource allows an important gain in the bass. When activated, you feel the low frequencies more strongly, without losing the others. Therefore, it is worth leaving this tool always activated.
Sound Tower also comes with a DJ mode, which delivers a list of effects to rock your party. Among other possibilities, you can add a filter to the sound, or add background noise, as well as simulate a voice choir.
But for those who are more conservative in the music they listen to, they may prefer to leave it disabled. Not to mention that it’s difficult to turn off this mode on the controller, since you’ll need to go through all the options until you get where you want.
We miss here a microphone input and a karaoke mode, absences that might be useful in a very lively party or even in domestic use.

Battery
We arrived at one of the most important points in this speaker: the battery. Samsung promises an autonomy of up to 12 hours of playback. Does she get through all of this? In our tests, we found a duration of 10 hours in Bluetooth mode and at medium volume. It does not arrive at the factory total, but we understand it to be a satisfactory amount.
And on loading? With the power cable that comes in the box and without turning the box on during the process, it took almost 2 hours and 40 minutes until the LED indicates full charge in blue. For total autonomy, we understand that it is not a very long time to stay in the socket.

Final considerations
The Sound Tower MX-ST45B is here to combine powerful, quality sound with the mobility to move with it. The design pleases in format, resistance and the presence of customizable LEDs, while connectivity allows different sources to play your music.
The audio pleases even in wireless use, when the power drops by half, and does not disappoint at maximum volume. Frequency balance is guaranteed in any musical style.
Of the additional features, perhaps the one you will enjoy the most are the LEDs, which help to provide a better environment wherever the box is turned on. The Bass Booster also reinforces the bass and improves the performance in a satisfactory way. The DJ mode, on the other hand, will only serve for very specific scenarios, without you using it all the time in your experience.
Finally, the battery may not deliver all the time promised by Samsung on Bluetooth, but the 10 hours of autonomy are already more than satisfactory to enjoy a lasting party with this product. The charging time might not be short, but it’s commensurate with the given duration.
As negative points in this box, we highlight in particular the absences. We are talking regarding the lack of a display on the box itself, a P10 microphone connector and a karaoke mode, which would help to improve the consumer experience.
Samsung launched the Sound Tower MX-ST454B in Brazil for a suggested retail price of R$3,000, but you can already find this model for lower prices in the domestic market. We understand that the ideal cost for this box is below BRL 2,000, in order to be more competitive with possible rivals.
In the range of R$ 1,800, you can already find the JBL PartyBox 100. It delivers the same power and autonomy from the factory as the Sound Tower, in addition to working via Bluetooth and having the same number of woofers and tweeters.
If you want a more robust box and don’t mind the weight, the LG XBOOM RN9 is another alternative found below R$ 2,000. This one has microphone and guitar input, built-in display and cell phone support as differentials, but also provides DJ effects, bass reinforcement and Bluetooth connection.
Do you think it pays more to have half the power to work wirelessly, or do you prefer to have all the Watts, even dependent on an outlet close by? Do you intend to buy a unit of this speaker? Comment with us!
