The debates in the case of embezzlement of public funds involving the former director general of the Road Maintenance Fund (FER), Souleymane Traoré, were closed this Thursday, July 6, 2023 before the judgment chamber of the Court of Repression of Offenses economic and financial (Crief). This case, which opposes the special prosecution to Souleymane Traoré, is postponed until July 17 for requisitions and pleadings.

At the opening of the hearing, the various parties claimed that all issues relating to the case had already been discussed. They thus asked the Court to declare the proceedings closed and to refer the case for requisitions and pleadings.

The Court, chaired by Francis Kova Zoumanigui, accepted this request and sent the case back to July 17. It will be on this date that the requisitions of the special prosecutor’s office as well as the defense arguments will be heard.

It should be noted that Souleymane Traoré is currently placed under judicial supervision since his release from prison. He is accused by the special prosecutor of the Crief, Aly Touré, of having embezzled several amounts in Guinean francs and in foreign currency, which were present in his five bank accounts. The special prosecution claims that these sums were obtained at the expense of the State. The amounts in question are as follows: 10 billion 510 million 112 thousand 592 Guinean francs, 387 thousand 489 dollars and 771 thousand 730 euros. Since the opening of the trial on March 15, the former director general of FER has always denied these accusations.
