SoulCode Academy begins international expansion

Founded over three years ago, SoulCode Academy has trained over 3,000 students free of charge in a bootcamp format, using its own methodology, 100% online and live. Of these students, around 600 are people with disabilities (PWDs), and 1,600 are women, 53% of whom are black women, and 550 are young people from NGOs in the outskirts and favelas. Since its founding, the Edtech has shown 30% annual growth in its revenue and is present in over 25 Brazilian states, in addition to having over 130,000 students on its online education platform, through the digital passport, which guarantees access to over 2,000 hours of classes.

Seeking to make the global technology market more democratic and inclusive, Edtech is expanding its reach with the partnership of Domingos Folque Guimarães, a social entrepreneur. The first international class was held in Bolivia, with online classes in Spanish. SoulCode, with Guimarães, already has plans for classes in Africa and Europe.

“When we talk about internationalization, we need to understand the culture of each country, the diversity gaps and digital competence in the region. That’s why we count on the support of Domingos, who has been working for years with social impact and shares the same mission as SoulCode: digital inclusion,” says Carmela Borst, CEO and co-founder of SoulCode Academy.

“This first impact project, exclusively for young Bolivian women, will be the beginning of a journey throughout Latin America and, especially, Africa. Together with my partner Mónica Gandarez and with the help of Carmela and the other founders of SoulCode, we already have proposals in Colombia, Cape Verde, Mozambique and East Timor,” says Domingos Folque Guimarães, representative of SoulCode International.

The first international SoulCode class has the support of i3 Impacto Social, which will train 75 Bolivian women in digital world skills and programming logic, enabling them to take the first step towards entering the Information Technology (IT) job market.

“We are very happy to be able to expand SoulCode’s purpose and mission outside of Brazil. Together, we will democratize access to technological education by bringing diversity to the technology areas of companies in all segments. We are certain that with partners like Domingos and Mônica, we will achieve our goals,” says Carmela.
