Despite resuscitation efforts undertaken by the priest and the rescuers he called, the young man might not be saved. Investigators are investigating the case as unintentional manslaughter.
I would like to point out that this is a standard procedure for initiating an investigation when we do not know the cause of death and we need to clarify the circumstances, said the head of the Sosnowiec-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office, Zbigniew Pawlik.
He added that during Wednesday’s examination of the man’s body, no injuries were revealed that might have caused his death. It is likely that the autopsy itself will not explain the cause of death and further toxicological and histopathological tests will be necessary. Its results are to be known this followingnoon.
The Diocesan Curia in Sosnowiec took note of the information regarding the incident with deep sadness and disbelief – it wrote in its statement, adding that it “fully cooperates with the trial authorities.”
Little is known for now. Investigators do not reveal who the deceased was, how old he was or what he was doing in the priest’s apartment. They also do not say whether anyone has been detained. Officials are guided by the welfare of the deceased’s relatives who have been notified regarding the case and are in contact with the services.
This is another tragedy in the Sosnowiec church in the last several months.
Prosecutors are still investigating the circumstances of the death of the priest and deacon, who were found in March 2023. According to unofficial information, the men were in conflict with each other. The priest was supposed to first stab the deacon with a knife and then throw himself in front of the train.
A few months ago, following the publication of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, the media talked regarding a moral scandal that occurred in August 2023 in the apartment of Father Tomasz Z., located in the parish of St. Blessed Virgin Mary of the Angels in Dąbrowa Górnicza. A sexual event was allegedly held there, as a result of which one of the men participating in it lost consciousness. In January this year priest Tomasz Z. was arrested, among others, on charges of crimes once morest sexual freedom and decency, failure to provide assistance and providing drugs.
In October 2023, Pope Francis agreed to the resignation of Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak, who served as the bishop of Sosnowiec. Metropolitan Archbishop Adrian Galbas of Katowice was appointed administrator of the diocese.
