SOS Doctors suspends visits after attack

“We are exercising our right of withdrawal and we will no longer make home visits until 8 a.m. Monday, in solidarity with our colleague,” Frédéric Tryniszewski, president of SOS Médecins 68, told AFP.

One of his colleagues was intervening in the city center of Mulhouse for a home visit, Saturday at the beginning of the followingnoon, to a patient when “he was taken to task by his spouse who criticized him for his delay in intervention “, according to the story of the president of SOS Médecins 68.

The man threatened the doctor with death, telling him to “get out”. “He then went to get a shotgun which he pointed in front of the doctor, reiterating his death threats”, still according to Dr. Tryniszewski.

In a thigh

Frightened, the young practitioner of 30 years decided to leave the premises. “After turning around, he was shot twice in the right thigh, with severe pain,” said the president of SOS Médecins 68.

The general practitioner then called the police who quickly arrested the shooter and seized the weapon, “a ball gun, a very faithful replica of a pump shotgun”, according to Dr. Tryniszewski. His colleague, he said, “is particularly shocked” and has “haematomas”.

Placed in custody

The young professional filed a complaint, SOS Médecins 68 announcing that he had filed a civil action. Already known to justice, the alleged attacker was placed in police custody and will be presented to a judge on Monday for an immediate appearance, the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office told AFP.

However, consultations at the Mulhouse office of SOS Médecins are always possible “so as not to take the population hostage”, insisted Dr Tryniszewski.
