O iOS 17.6 (and other systems) was released today for all users and, although it predominantly included bug fixes and improvements, the update also expanded an important security feature to another region.
I speak of Emergency SOS via satellitewhich arrived today, with the new version, at Japan. The news was seen by a user on X and confirmed in a Apple Support Article.

Finally: Satellite-based emergency SOS services activated in Japan with iOS 17.6 update
With this, users of iPhone 14 or newer models will be able to set up the service and enjoy it for free in the country. It is worth noting that Apple officially offers two free years of the feature; however, in November 2023 it extended the free service for some devices for another year.
