BORN on August 5, 2000 in Yogyakarta and crowned as Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2024, Sophie Kirana is currently active in various Indonesian nature conservation programs. She has long shown deep concern for environmental issues, even before being crowned as Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan.
Her concern for the environment grew from her love of Indonesia’s rich and diverse natural beauty, as well as her awareness of growing environmental challenges, such as deforestation, plastic pollution and climate change.
Sophie always emphasizes the importance of each individual’s role in protecting the environment. For her, responsibility for nature is not only the task of the government or a particular organization, but a shared obligation that must be shouldered by everyone.
“We all have a role to play in protecting this Earth, from small things like reducing the use of single-use plastic to supporting environmentally friendly policies. So, you don’t need to be ashamed if you use used plastic to carry your shopping,” said Sophie in an interview with YKAN (Indonesian Nature Conservation Foundation).

“The mangrove conservation activity that I did yesterday with the nature lovers community, the goal is not far from nature conservation, maintaining the marine biota ecosystem and absorbing carbon dioxide. Because of its many benefits, I feel that this activity is very important to do for the survival of humans and the balance of the earth’s ecosystem,” said Sophie Kirana.

“Yesterday, someone suddenly joined a mangrove conservation activity, when I asked the reason, he said it was because he saw me doing a mangrove conservation activity.
