Sophia Hernández in modern pentathlon bids farewell to Guatemala at the 2024 Olympic Games

The pentathlete, Sophia Hernández, was unable to make it to the final after five events, thus ending Guatemala’s participation in Paris 2024.

This Saturday, August 10, Guatemala’s role in Paris 2024 came to an end, with the dispute of Sophia Hernandez in the Modern Pentathlon semi-final.

Sophia had an average day in fencing last Friday, ending with a negative balance in the fights, however on day 2 she embarked on the horse riding test.

In this test, would be in 11th place, obtaining 293 points; later, in the extra round of fencing would only beat the Mexican Mariana Arceo who had previously won 4 fights.

In swimming, it was appreciated that it was not his strong point. finishing fifth in his series with a time of 2:22:83 minutes with a difference of 14 seconds from the leader.

He would lose a lot of points in freestyle swimming because in the general table he would go up to position 16; Finally in Laser Run, the 27-year-old would end up in the penultimate place.

These last disciplines brought it down to the place 16 of 18 pentathletes, adding a total of 1,295 points to say goodbye to his first Olympic Games.

Sophia was the last athlete of the Guatemalan delegation to participate in this edition of the Olympic Games, games that will remain in national history for obtaining the first medal 12 years later and the first gold medal for the country.
