Samsung watch, Galaxy Watch 5is a great connected watch, except when worn by users with wrist tattoos. This is a small inconvenience that has an impact on the operation of the device.
However, people with tattoos should also be able to wear smartwatches without this being a problem. That’s why Samsung has looked into the matter. Here is what it is.
Tattoos vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 watch sensors
The sensor advance BioActive from Samsung which is in the Galaxy Watch 5 normally allows to record the pulse. The same goes for the oxygenation rate in the blood and even the body temperature of the wearer of the smartwatch. But it becomes complicated if this accessory cannot even detect whether the device is worn by a user or not.
This is particularly the case when a person has tattoos in the sensor area of the Galaxy Watch 5s watch. It is a detail that is important. Indeed, the ink of a tattoo prevents the rays from discerning the blood vessels of the wearer of the smartwatch. Consequently, it is possible to miss notifications. Since the watch is likely to consider that its owner is not wearing it if it does not directly detect his skin.
How a smartwatch works
During their operation, the sensors connected watches associate the rays that touch the skin with theaccelerometer and the gyroscope interne to perform all kinds of measures. One of them is whether we wear the watch or not. When the watch knows that we are not wearing it, it goes into standby and stop sending us notifications. Otherwise, it will vibrate the smartwatch.
And this scenario occurs quite often when a Galaxy Watch 5 watch is worn by a user who has tattoos on his wrist. They interfere with said sensor. And the notifications arrive with a delay or not at all. What reduces the usefulness of this device.
A patch announced by Samsung
Fortunately, the Korean brand Samsung has found a solution to this problem. There’s apparently not much engineers can do regarding the sensor itself. But according to what has been commented on their forums, a setting will enable or disable smartwatch wearing detection.
So, even if you have tattoos on your wrists and you’re wearing a watch Galaxy Watch 5s, she will work normally. This new function will no longer take into account whether the wearer has the smartwatch on their wrist or not. Except that this option is energy intensive.
Without disabling wear detection, notifications will continue to arrive even following you take the watch off and put it on the table. It’s a pretty handy fixbut you have to know how to handle it.
Samsung specifies that this new tuning will arrive as an update in the second half of 2023. In the meantime, those with tattooed wrists will have to be patient.
