The government would work on the creation of a check for users of daily trains (Transiliens, TER …) for next year, reports Le Parisien, Wednesday, September 21. The aid would concern the most modest French people.
Good news for public transport users? The executive is considering aid, which would be integrated into the 2023 finance bill, reports Le Parisien, Wednesday, September 21.
A check for 50 euros might be paid to users of daily trains (Transiliens, TER, etc.).
“With a check, the beneficiary knows immediately to whom he owes it. And then, if we pay the money to the communities so that they redistribute it, there is always a risk of loss”, explains a source close to the file, with the daily. This boost would target the most modest subscribers to those of the middle classes. “Everything will depend on whether we stop at the lower or upper middle class, all the arbitrations have not yet been completely made”, details the Parisian this same source. The amount of 50 euros “may not seem like much. But it’s regarding compensating for the additional cost linked to inflation, no more”she says.
TGV passengers are not affected by the aid
However, the check will not concern TGV passengers. “We target daily users. In the TGVs, there are mainly tourists and business travelers”, justifies another source to the newspaper. This new aid envisaged by the government is part of a context where the price of train tickets might still increase. With this project, the government wishes to take the lead in the face of an opposition which might demand a reduction in VAT from 10% to 5.5% in transport. And this, while the SNCF is also faced with a context of energy crisis: the rising electricity prices should incur an additional cost of nearly two billion euros in 2023, of which around half would concern these famous trains of the daily.
