Sony’s PlayStation answer to Microsoft Game Pass could cost up to $16 a month

New details regarding the Xbox Game Pass competitor according to Sony. Three offers: 10, 13 and 16 $ per month.

Sony is preparing a competing service to Xbox Game Pass for its PlayStation. It’s no longer a secret. It turns out that this one might have three plans, at $10, $13, and $16 per month, if VentureBeat’s GamesBeat is to be believed. Bloomberg first reported the existence of an all-in-one game service subscription codenamed Spartacus in December. According to several documents, Spartacus would merge the offers of the PlayStation Now and you Playstation Plus and would be offered on PS4 and PS5. This new report gives more details.

New details regarding Xbox Game Pass competitor according to Sony

Sony would have baptized the three offers of its Spartacus service as follows: Essential, Extra and Premium. The first would be neither more nor less than the PlayStation Plus in its current form. It would be offered at $10 per month and provide access to games each month to add to its library. The Extra offer, meanwhile, would therefore cost $13 and would include access to these monthly games as well as a catalog of hundreds of games to download. This catalog might also be the same as that of PS Now.

Finally, the Premium plan, at $16 per month, it seems, would include all the benefits of the first two plus access to PS Now streaming features and a catalog of classic games. In addition, subscribers would also have access to a feature called “game trials” which would allow them to download and start playing new PS games before they are released. If this is similar to what EA offers, you might play a game for a few hours before its official release.

At this point, no one knows if Sony will add any exclusives to its service when it becomes available. Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan said some time ago that putting titles that cost several hundred million dollars to develop into a subscription service was not viable. That being said, Microsoft has since bought out Bethesda and moved into acquiringActivision Blizzard. The game tech is adding titles from both developers to its Xbox Game Pass. Sony will therefore have to make its subscription as attractive as possible.

Spartacus would enter the testing phase in the coming weeks. GamesBeat also specifies that Sony might officially reveal all the details during the month of March. To be continued !
