Six months following revealing that it was working on Access, an accessible set of PlayStation 5 (PS5) controllers for gamers with disabilities, Sony has finally announced a price, $120, and a launch date, next December 6.

[On a créé] a versatile set of controllers that allow people with disabilities to play more comfortably and for longer, allowing more people to play [personnes] to share the joys of video games, Sony said in a press release.

It’s the culmination of five years of work for PlayStation, which says it worked with organizations and accessibility specialists to design the right set.

The PS5’s Accessibility Controller Set is ultra-customizable, thanks to multiple differently shaped buttons and joystick caps (joystick), manipulable in any 360 degree orientation.

The device can also connect to third-party accessibility accessories through four 3.5mm expansion ports.

On the PS5 game console, players have access to other configuration settings to assign keys and disable others to prevent accidental presses, among other things.

It is even possible to combine up to two Access controllers and a DualSense wireless controller to use them in synergy, Sony said.

This accessible gamepad is long overdue by the disabled community, whose options for launching parts of their favorite games are limited. Since 2018, people with disabilities have been able to rely on Microsoft’s adaptive set for the Xbox console.
