  • Shock diagnosis for Sonya Kraus.

  • During a routine check-up last fall, the German presenter found a small but highly aggressive breast tumor.

  • She then had both breasts removed and had to undergo chemotherapy, as she now reveals in an interview with “Bunte”.

  • With her openness, she wants to warn other women and encourage them to go to regular medical check-ups.

In September 2021, presenter Sonya Kraus went to a Frankfurt gynecologist for a routine check-up. A visit that would change the life of the 48-year-old forever. Because she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “It was a small, highly aggressive tumour, 0.8 centimeters in size,” says Kraus in an interview with the “Colorful». Her great luck was that he was recognized very early.

“In November I had both breasts removed. I wanted the most radical procedure and the greatest possible chance for me not to fall ill once more,” says the mother of two sons. An extreme decision, but that made her chances “bombastic”.

“I might not be able to live without a routine check-up”

However, problems arose once more: “I had a port thrombosis and had to be operated on once more because of secondary bleeding.” But this is whining at a high level. Her breasts have since been surgically rebuilt. In addition, Kraus had to endure chemotherapy. “The chemo was a monster for me,” said the moderator. But the treatments helped, the knot is gone.

Talking openly regarding her diagnosis helps her and it is a matter close to her heart as a person affected to clarify. With her story she wants to encourage women to take precautions. “If I hadn’t gone for a routine check-up, I might not be alive anymore,” says Kraus – and further: “In this pandemic, many women unfortunately dare to go to the doctor much too late. There are a thousand good reasons not to go to preventive care: no time, no desire, Corona, it won’t be anything, I don’t like my gynecologist. But those 20 minutes can save your life. And it was the same for me.”
