Increasing PlayStation 5 production will remain Sony’s top priority going forward.current investorBriefingChinese officials said they expected to close the gap this year after experiencing 2021, when sales of new consoles fell behind older consoles. Not surprisingly, Sony still attributes poor PS5 sales to insufficient production due to supply chain shortages. The data they counted shows that on average, 80,000 PS5 units can be sold every 82 minutes, while it takes a full 9 days for the PS4 to reach this sales volume.

Sony believes that production will gradually catch up as supply chain conditions slowly improve, but the potential impact of the epidemic will ultimately be unknown. In addition, they are also concerned that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict could jeopardize the inventory of components such as logic boards. To avoid this, it plans to source from multiple suppliers in order to “maintain greater flexibility in volatile market conditions”. At the same time, Sony is also negotiating with multiple parties to ensure the best delivery route for the host.

If all goes well, Sony thinks the PS5 will once again outsell the PS4 starting next year. CEO of SIE Jim Ryan Claims that after the initial ramp-up is complete, they “plan to further substantially increase mainframe production to achieve unprecedented levels of production”. In addition, Sony also revealed at the meeting that they will continue to expand the influence of PlayStation Studios by acquiring more studios, and it will also invest more in live broadcast services, PC and mobile terminals. Its current plan is to launch 12 live streaming services in the next few years, and to put half of the annual first-party releases on PC and mobile by 2025.
