Game news Sony: PS5 games will arrive faster on PC!
After spending a long time on the future of narrative games within PlayStation Studios itself, Hermen Hulst, the director of the PlayStation development houses, takes the floor once more to tell us regarding the PS5 games coming to PC.
Towards a shorter exit window
As you probably already know, Sony recently changed its policy regarding the arrival of its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusives on machines other than its own. Indeed, since the launch and success of Death Stranding on PC, but also Horizon : Zero Dawn and of Days Gone, the Japanese firm is repeating the operation by putting its latest flagship productions on a computer. Recently it is Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered which has received this attention.
With this initiative which seems to be more than working, it is normal to wonder if PlayStation Studios will continue to offer its games on PC, better, if the launch gaps between the different platforms are not going to be further reduced in the future. This is what Julien Chièze asked Hermen Hulst during a recent interview. Obviously, the director of PlayStation Studios answered in the affirmative.
I think it’s really a good thing for teams to see their games also released on PC (…). There are more players and that helps. I think that in the future we will see at least a year between the release of one of our games on PlayStation console and then on PC. Hermen Hulst, director of PlayStation Studios
In other words, from now on, it will take regarding a year between the launch of a game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and the arrival of this same game on PC. Perhaps that will be the case for God of War : Ragnarokespecially since the first opus has already appeared on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
However, for Hermen Hulst, this idea only concerns solo games and not service games, since the latter need a gigantic community to last over time. It is for this reason that multiplayer games will be released on all media at the same time.
These LIVE games are a bit different in nature, because you need a strong community, high engagement right from the start, right from launch. So for these types of games, we might do simultaneous releases between PC and PlayStation. Hermen Hulst
The PC, a necessity according to Hermen Hulst
But ultimately, the biggest takeaway is this: for Hermen Hulst, releasing games on PC – in addition to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 – are great ways to drive incremental sales, which makes sense. since it now reaches a wider audience. These additional sales then allow PlayStation Studios to invest more in even bigger projects.
This allows us to continue to invest… To invest even more deeply in projects. Hermen Hulst
