The first information regarding the departure of the head of the SIE gaming division was shared by Jason Schreier, but then it was confirmed by Sony itself. PlayStation head Jim Ryan is retiring in March 2024 following 30 years of work at Sony. Ryan attributed his decision to the ever-increasing difficulty of balancing life in the UK and working in the US. “After 30 years, I have decided to retire from SIE in March 2024. I enjoyed the opportunity to have a job I loved, at a special company, and work alongside great people and incredible partners. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to combine living in Europe and working in North America. I’m proud to have been involved in products that have touched millions of lives around the world; PlayStation will always be a part of me, and I’m more optimistic regarding the future of SIE than ever. “I want to thank Yoshida-san for placing so much trust in me and being an incredibly empathetic and supportive leader,” Ryan said. From April 1, 2024, Sony Group Chief Operating Officer Hiroki Totoki will take over as interim head of SIE. Ryan joined Sony Europe in 1994. Since then, he has served as SIE’s Head of Global Sales and Marketing and SIE’s Deputy President since January 2018, before being named SIE’s President and CEO.(source of cover story)
