Sony launches an initiative to preserve its old games

The revamped PlayStation Plus service includes hundreds of games from older generations. So you can continue to enjoy your old titles.

The extended service of PlayStation Plus from Sony will soon be deployed in PlayStation Now. This service includes several hundred games from older generations of consoles. It looks like the firm has finally taken saving old games seriously. She has set up a team to ensure the preservation of her old titles.

According to Twitter and LinkedIn posts spotted by Video Games Chronicle, Sony has recently hired at least one engineer. The latter recruits are destined to work in a new preservation team. Garrett Fredley has also announced his recruitment within this backup team. In particular, he clearly revealed that his mission was to ensure the backup of sony history.

Sony hasn’t always excelled at backing up old games. The company has decided in particular to digitally close the PSP PS3 and Vita. The fans therefore had no assurance of find PS3 and PSP exclusives.

In a 2017 interview, Gran Turismo, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment said that he had no interest in such a backup. Sony indeed rewards the quality of the most modern entries in the series. It is however clear that the team behind Gran Turismo has no in no way intended to disrespect PlayStation history.

Desktop gamers can indulge in titles dating back decades. The Xbox Series X/S will then be able to run all games as far back as the first Xbox.

We also know that Sony is not the only one not knowing how to preserve its old titles. Nintendo does not look too good on this point. The latter also provides for the upcoming closure of the 3DS and Wii U stores. It is not certain that all console games on Nintendo Switch may not be supported by the next consoles.
