The Hong Kong Marathon (Zama) will soon be held this Sunday, are all the runners ready? Let me know, the editor will participate at that time and run around. Do you all have the habit of wearing headphones and listening to music when running or exercising? Bone conduction earphones are generally the mainstay in the market for sports users, but in recent years there have been more open-ear earphone designs, which provide (relatively) good sound quality experience while maintaining safety. Sony also just took advantage of this opportunity to bring a new headphone item called Float Run, officially targeting such a market, and the origin of this product is quite interesting.
Do you remember that Sony had special products that were born out of crowdfunding plans such as the wena smart watch and the Reon Pocket portable air conditioner? Today’s Float Run was also born through this plan, and it was officially incorporated into regular products by Sony because of its great acclaim.
Sony Float Run is an over-the-ear open earphone, only 33g, very light. In particular, its support point is set on the “mastoid” part behind the ear, so it will not put pressure on the back of the ear together with glasses and masks, and has a stable and unburdened wearing feeling. The neck strap also allows athletes to temporarily hang the earphones around their necks, without having to find a place to put them like true wireless models. The body of the Float Run headset has a broadcast button, and the waterproof rating is IPX4. The charging is through USB-C, and it has the ability to charge for 10 minutes and play for 1 hour.
As a headset, the Sony Float Run uses a rather large 16mm unit, and the cavity is suspended by the ear, so there will be no in-ear cramping, auscultation effect, or vibration of bone conduction headphones. The sound of Float Run is also in line with its positioning, with obvious low frequency and rhythmic direction, but of course it can’t be said to a very good degree. Listen to Float Run in a general outdoor environment, the music can still be heard, and there is no obvious problem of spreading out, and the practice on the sports field will not be too noisy to others. Of course, when using it indoors, others will still hear the sound, following all, this is still an open earphone.
Sony Float Run It will be officially released in Hong Kong on February 14, priced at HK$1,099.
