Sony has finally revealed the details of its next-generation VR headset for the PS5. The headset will be called PlayStation VR2 (PSVR 2), which comes as no surprise to anyone. the advertisement It was introduced during the Sony CES 2022 presentation, similar to the PS5 logo advertisement.
Sony has yet to reveal what the headset will look like, but we’ve got some details regarding the specifications. PSVR 2 will require a PlayStation 5 to function. It will come with new VR consoles officially called Sense consoles. These controllers will come with the haptic feedback found in the PS5 DualSense controllers.
PlayStation VR2 Specifications
The PSVR 2’s specs are comparable to the Meta (Oculus) Quest 2. It has a similar field of view of 110 degrees and a display resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye (15.7 percent more than the Quest 2). The headset will also support haptic feedback and eye tracking, features not seen in any headphones yet.
PSVR 2 will come with a 4K HDR OLED panel in terms of graphic performance. This will drive the price of the device somewhat higher as most VR headsets use fast switching LCD screens. However, users can expect better picture quality, pure black levels, and highly responsive pixels thanks to the OLED display.
The game will also take advantage of the PS5’s performance and usage of pixelated rendering to run at 90/120Hz frame rates. As for the release date, there was a report by A Chinese port Which indicates that the PSVR2 production line will start in the near future. This will be part of Sony’s plans to launch PlayStation VR2 by 2022.
Horizon VR: Call of the Mountain
Sony also announced the first new PSVR-exclusive title: Horizon Call of the Mountain. This will be a follow-up to next month’s Horizon Forbidden West, a much-anticipated PlayStation exclusive video game. The teaser offers a brief glimpse into the world of Horizon, which is full of mechanical monsters.
It’s a shame that the teaser also doesn’t provide any gameplay details regarding how Slug (the main character in the series) will interact with the world in VR. Unfortunately, there is no official release date for the game or the headset.
