Because the PS5 sold 11.5 million units in 2021, Sony had an ambitious forecast at the end of the last fiscal year that its new console sales would reach 18 million units in 2022, and believed that the gaming division might achieve “all-round” revenue “Substantial growth. But following they just announcedfinancial report, we see a change in the situation. Sony has lowered its full-year profit forecast from $2.3 billion to $1.9 billion, an adjustment of 16%, because of “unexpected sales declines for first-party games.”At the same time, revenue also decreased in the last quarter, but this is officially attributed to the Bungie The acquisition was completed earlier than expected.

However, Sony has not changed its sales expectations for the PS5. The number of new consoles they sold last quarter was 2.4 million units, a slight increase from 2.3 million units in the same period a year ago (total sales have reached 21.4 million units). ). But that means Sony will have to sell an average of 5 million PS5s per quarter over the next three quarters of this fiscal year to hit its target. They have never performed like this before, and the official promise to increase PS5 production capacity this year has not really been implemented so far.

On the software side, Sony sold a total of 47.1 million games last quarter, of which 6.4 million were first-party titles, both figures showing a year-over-year decline (63.6 million and 10.5 million last year, respectively). In addition, compared to the previous quarter, PlayStation Plus users also decreased by 100,000, of which the number of monthly active players fell from 106 million to 102 million. Of course, such fluctuations may have something to do with the official new subscription plan.
