Sony Corporation announced its intention to acquire Game design company Bungie in January Now, that acquisition is complete. “Although the company is now under the Sony umbrella, we will continue to publish our games independently and develop them creatively,” Bungie’s CEO said in a post regarding the acquisition. “Future games in development will not be exclusive to PlayStation,” Bungie’s CEO Joe Blackburn and Justin Truman said. .
Sony plans to rely on Bungie because of its global experience in multi-system development and online gaming services, which will help it achieve its vision of expanding the PlayStation to hundreds of millions of players.
Sony considers online games an important part of the future of PlayStation as it plans to release more than 10 new live service games by March 2026.
With Bungie now officially completed as part of Sony we now have to wait for Microsoft to finalize its massive $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard and it might take some time for that to be completed and Microsoft expects the deal to close sometime in its 2023 fiscal year.
