Sonos: new firmware, new functions and expanded 5 GHz Wi-Fi compatibility

Several older Sonos speakers inherit compatibility with 802.11a 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, following a firmware update. A revision of their software which brings other functional improvements.

Now, Sonos One (Gen 1), Sonos Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen 2), Sub (Gen 1), Sub (Gen 2), Symfonisk bookshelf speakers (Gen 1) and the Symfonisk table lamp are able to connect directly to 5 GHz. The IKEA frame-type models and the new lamp and shelf versions are able to operate on 5 GHz or alternate between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This may simplify connections between this equipment and the rest of its home wireless installation.

This 14.12 update brings other things like a setting for energy saving when Roam and Roam SL are connected via Wi-Fi; a function for demote S2 compatible speakers to S1 when you have a system composed mainly of old equipment. There are also fixes for the rendering of voice content with the Arc soundbar and for the configuration of several chain products.
