When 17-year-old high school student Nicole (Hohloch) took the stage at the “Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson” in Harrogate, England, her message was as simple as it was difficult to implement: “A little peace”.
The catchy song became one of the biggest hits of the 1980s and was the song of her life for Nicole – she won the song contest with it. At that time, the schoolgirl wore a black and white dotted dress, played the simple little song on her white guitar and convinced with her naturalness. The song written by Ralph Siegel (76) and Bernd opinioner (77) made Nicole famous: “This song and I, we are inseparable.”
Nicole recorded versions in several languages, including Russian: “Njemnogo mira” it says, which is becoming more topical once more in view of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. The song may seem naïve, but the simple lyrics are touching: “A little peace, a little dreaming. And that people don’t cry that often.”
The singer from Nohfelden in Saarland still lives in her home country, has released 30 albums and sold many millions of albums. The “Song of the Century” is part of every one of their performances: “When I sing it on stage, something still happens to the people: the lighters go on, people hold hands, some even cry.”
