The National Fuel Society of Angola (Sonangol) will have a professional chess team in the short or medium term. On the occasion, the CEO of Sonangol, Sebastião Pai Querido Martins, said that sport science falls within the scope of the company’s social responsibility.
In Luanda, on the sidelines of the recently concluded “science game” tournament, celebrating the company’s 48th anniversary, the person in charge stated that the objective is to respond to the needs of young people, so that, even in the future, they can become employees.
For Sebastião Pai Querido Martins, Sonangol has young workers who, at the same time, can enroll in sports science, allowing the promotion of the sport and intellectual evolution. “The objective is to have more African champions for the country in the individual sport.
Therefore, I reiterate that chess will be part of the modalities to benefit from aid so that the sport grows and that Sonangol can also benefit from the gains”, reiterated the PCA.
“I know that it is very difficult for many young people to have the opportunity to embrace and continue practicing the sport, not only in Angola, but also outside the country”, he acknowledged.
