Dakar, June 30 (APS) – The National Society for Integrated Waste Management (SONAGED) has registered 7,295 people wishing to participate in the cleaning of cities following Tabaski, we learned Thursday evening from its director general, Mass Thiam.
SONAGED has opened an electronic platform allowing those who wish to register to take part in “Operation Tabaski”, which will consist of cleaning the streets often strewn with impressive amounts of garbage following this Muslim holiday. .
“We found that at the close of registration, 7,295 people, namely 3,321 SONAGED agents and 3,974 non-agents, had registered on this platform to participate. […] to the effort to clean up neighborhoods and markets, in all the communes of Senegal,” Mr. Thiam told reporters at the launch of the clean-up operation.
The registered persons were to be distributed among the municipalities of the country, from Thursday evening, to begin the operation on Friday, according to the director general of SONAGED.
A dozen “heavy machinery” will be “mobilized”, as well as the usual system, which consists of garbage trucks.
The neighborhood cleanliness brigades and other structures responsible for city cleanliness will take part in the operation.
“We want the streets and neighborhoods to become clean once more, that people can go regarding their business, in the markets in particular, thanks to this cleaning device,” assured Mass Thiam, recalling that the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of sheep during the Tabaski generates large amounts of garbage.
He is delighted with the “commitment” of the populations to support the efforts aimed at making their living environment clean.
”Half of those registered come from the Dakar region […] In the Dakar region, he said, the work will be done in all 19 district municipalities of the department of Dakar and in the municipalities of the departments of Keur Massar, Rufisque, Pikine and Guédiawaye.
