Son Heung-min “After the EPL top scorer, there was a lot of pressure, I will continue to improve”

Son Heung-min (31), who scored his 100th goal in the English Premier League (EPL), confessed that he felt a lot of pressure following winning the Golden Boot (top scorer) last season. Heung-Min Son vowed to overcome the pressure and become a better player.

According to the ‘British Evening Standard’ on the 10th, Son Heung-min looked back on the pressure he was under this season.

“Last season was fantastic,” he said. It was a magical moment to become the top scorer. “But when the new season started, everyone expected another great performance from me, saying ‘Sonny became the top scorer’. It wasn’t a simple matter. I got more attention and the pressure was great,” he said.

Son Heung-min said, “I like that pressure,” but “I’m not a perfect player. I can still improve at my age, and the games ahead will be very important to me and our team.”

Son Heung-min scored 23 goals last season and tied for the top scorer with Mohamed Salah (Liverpool). He set a milestone as the first Asian player to become the EPL scorer.

However, this season, Son Heung-min is somewhat stagnant due to injuries and intensive checks from opponents. He remains at 7 goals all season so far.

Despite his regret, he recently wrote a meaningful new history. Son Heung-min scored with a wonderful right-footed shot in the 10th minute of the first half in the match once morest Brighton held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on the 9th.

Son Heung-min, who joined Tottenham in 2015, scored 100 goals in his 260th EPL game. It is the 34th EPL record and the first Asian player record.

Tottenham beat Brighton 2-1 with Son Heung-min’s goal that day, but they are still fighting hard to enter the ‘Big 4’.

Currently, Tottenham, with 53 points, is in 5th place, 3 points behind Newcastle United and Manchester United (56 points), who are in 3rd and 4th places.

Son Heung-min said, “We had a hard time over the past few weeks.”

“We know what mistakes we made. You have to take on more responsibility. Don’t expect 3 points for free. We have to fight until the last minute.”

Son Heung-min, who is competing for rankings, pledged to succeed in entering the ‘Big 4’ by doing his best until the end.

“It is great to have scored 100 EPL goals,” he said. “But the most important thing is to get 3 points. “Victory over Brighton is very meaningful,” he said.
