Road Resurfacing Plan in Somma Lombardo Revised, More Funds Allocated to Asphalt Work
The city of Somma Lombardo has announced modifications to its public works plan, leading to a significant boost in funding allocated for road resurfacing projects. The adjustments come in response to permitting issues impacting the original redevelopment plan for Piazza Vittorio Veneto, a key plan to revitalize the city’s heart.
Focus Shifts to Asphalt
The initial plan to revamp Piazza Vittorio Veneto, which sits at the intersection of the municipality and Basilica of Sant’Agnese, has been put on hold due to permitting hurdles posed by the Superintendency. This move prompted the reallocation of funds, resulting in a significant increase to the 2024 asphalt budget. The amount earmarked for asphalt work has increased by 155,000 euros.
“The process [with the Superintendency] brought certain goals to a standstill,” explained Edoardo Piantanida Chiesa, Somma Lombardo’s Public Works councilor, at the recent municipal council meeting. “So we’ve decided to move those resources into the asphalt improvement package.” This brings the 2024 asphalt budget to a total of 510,000 euros.
The part of the Via Milano renovation, which focuses on enhanced lighting, new green spaces, and additional parking, will continue as planned.
Belvedere Slope Recovery Revised
In addition to the asphalt adjustments, the three-year public works plan includes a second modification related to the recovery project for the Belvedere slope, which was previously affected by a landslide in 2012. The allocated amount has been reduced from a previously stated figure to 4 million 814 thousand 954 euros.
“The calculations were made” – Piantanida Chiesa clarified – “taking into account the planning by Alfa” (‘Alfa’ is possibly an engineering firm or a consulting entity involved). The focus has shifted towards
laying new pipes, addressing further critical issues on the slope that were not resolved by the initial urgency repair work. “ Now, new ones will be installed, also thinking about the possibility of intervention for future maintenance,” added Piantanida Chiesa.
