That it seems far away, the time of the old-fashioned image of the Citroen BX derided by the Gorafi. Forty years following the arrival of this compact with its very original style and state-of-the-art damping technology, no one seems to be laughing when approaching the BX. And it’s not this new sale made by the house Aguttes which will allow us to think the opposite.
A red copy of BX Sport dating from 1985, displaying 40,000 kilometers on the odometer, has just changed owners for the sum of €22,720 while the car was estimated between €15,000 and €20,000. According to Aguttes’ commentary on the vehicle, the fairly rare red paint (“less than 10% of total production”) would partly explain this high selling price, as well as the low mileage and the excellent condition of preservation of the car.
126 horsepower and no injection
For this price, the proud owner of the BX Sport will be able to take advantage of its 1.9-litre, 126-horsepower four-cylinder, powered by carburetors and not by a modern injection system. As pointed out the excellent Stéphane Schlesinger in a recent article devoted to Citroën’s former family compact, the BX’s time as a credible collector’s vehicle has therefore come. Remember that at the end of last year, Artcurial had already sold a rare BX 4TC for €47,120. And even copies of the less interesting versions can now exceed €10,000 when they display low mileage!
