Someone copied Unreal Engine 5 and put it up for sale on Steam under the name Worldmaker

An unknown Crafty Development Team has launched a new graphics engine on Steam called WorldMaker, which is nothing more than an Unreal Engine 5 clone made using Unreal Engine 5 with assets taken from the Unreal Engine Marketplace.

Not only is the interface identical and the features are the same (it’s a clone, following all), the development team makes buyers believe that they can transfer all rights to use resources taken from the Marketplace, even to create commercial products and live broadcasts.

It remains unknown what kind of checks Steam did before allowing WorldMaker to be released in Early Access, and why they didn’t ban the game before it hit the store.

The developer commented as follows:

What I’m doing is simply iterating an existing product, making it easier to use, and pricing it fairly. as many others have done with other apps and games in the past. for example, Fortnite copied PUBG. After all, what I’m doing is not illegal. I charge for ease of use, and if people are willing to pay for that instead of using Unreal, then so be it.

I wonder what Epic Games has to say regarding this.
