For the year 2023-2024, the cost of student life increases by 6.47%, according to Unef, i.e. a necessary additional budget of 594.76 euros for the year. Ignorance, fear of administrative procedures, mistrust… In France, 25% of 18-30 year olds do not ask for the aid they are entitled to.

Will we have to break the piggy bank this year for the start of the school year? According to the Trade Union Confederation of Families, prices rose by 11.3% in one year. A new school year placed under the sign of inflation and it will be the same for students. Unef unveiled this week the 6.47% increase in the cost of student living. Surprisingly, many young people do not ask for the aid they are entitled to.

Help with driving license, activity bonus, right to the scholarship…

This is the case of Ambrine, a 21-year-old student, who does not know what aid she is entitled to and who is afraid of administrative procedures. “There are a lot of criteria, there are a lot of papers to provide. And even when we are told ‘you have the right to aid’, we don’t really believe it because in fact, we say to ourselves at any time, we can be called saying ‘finally, you have to reimburse us'”, she explains.

25% of 18-30 year olds do not ask for these aids

To give young people a hand, there are online aid simulators, whether government platforms or private initiatives, such as the Wizbii Money service. “You have a little over 500 financial aids. It can be aids to pass his driving license, the activity bonus, the Crous which are scholarships for students. Wizbii Money is used by two million users and on this basis, you have three quarters of them who are under 25 years old”, explains co-founder Romain Gentil.

The customer potential is vast. In France, 25% of young people between the ages of 18 and 30 did not have access to assistance for which they might have been eligible.
