Some of the IMF requirements are in the House of Representatives, awaiting approval

He said Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon, His Excellency Al-ShamiThe initial agreement with the International Monetary Fund on an aid plan worth $3 billion over four years is a positive step in the right direction, noting that the preconditions are very normal in any agreement with the IMF.

Al-Shami added in an interview with Al-Arabiya over the phone that some of the things requested by the fund are ready and present in the parliament awaiting approval, such as the 2022 budget law, which is a prior procedure required by the fund.

Al-Shami pointed out that the amendment of the banking secrecy law may be sent to Parliament in the near future, followed by restructuring the banking sector.

He stressed that the requirements may be approved very soon in the government, but he indicated that for the House of Representatives, it is the one who decides when to study bills, stressing that there is cooperation between the authorities.

Al-Shami expressed his hope that these projects will be approved before the parliamentary elections on May 15, stressing that there is a kind of consultation with the political parties and parties in Lebanon, and meetings have been called with all relevant authorities to inform them of the discussions with the International Monetary Fund.
