“Some have been there for 30 years”: this famous highway restaurant will close its doors after the summer

A place of passage very frequented by drivers traveling south, the Hondelange roadhouse will close its doors at the end of the summer. Sofico, the manager of the motorway network, has not found a buyer. A total of 27 people will lose their jobs.

This is sad news for the employees of the Hondelange roadhouse: the establishment in which they work will close its doors at the end of the summer. Overlooking the E411 motorway near Arlon, this auto-grill was an important crossing point for drivers heading south.

The society Idelux, which was in charge of the site, withdrew and did not wish to sign for another 20 years. There Sofico, the manager of the motorway network, failed to find a buyer for this location. The group Autogrill already plans to give the notices later this month while the official closure will not take place until September.

In response to this, the 27 employees have decided to go on strike today and tomorrow to protest the way in which their dismissal was carried out. “The general feeling among workers is that they are victims of a lack of respect from management. Some have been here for thirty years“explains Françoise Renard, CSC food and services secretary.

They are forced to accept the closure, because there are no buyers. They ask at least that a group as important as Autogrill can fire them in a decent, correct way and with a little to turn around” she concludes.
