Some employers do not want an increase in the service voucher

According to two business organisations, increasing the service voucher by five euros would make this aid inaccessible to the lower middle classes, encouraging undeclared work.

The Walloon Federation of Integration Companies (InitiativES) and the Consultation Platform of Representative Organizations of the Social Economy in French-speaking Belgium (Concertes) indicate on Thursday that they do not support the request forincrease of 5 euros in the service voucherannounced by the three largest employers in the sector on Wednesday.

The two organizations are “firmly” opposed to the service voucher sector’s request for “ensure the balance of the device”.

“Such a substantial increase in the service voucher would be unsustainable for the lower middle classes“, argue the two organizations in the press release. The FGTB, CSC and CGSLB also reacted to the announcement in a statement on Thursday. “The sector is 70% subsidized by the public authorities,” say the unions. “We are and remain of the opinion that public money should be used for the well-being of domestic helpers and not to further enrich a wealthy minority of shareholders.”

On Wednesday, the three largest companies in the service voucher sector demanded an increase of 5 euros in the value of the service voucher for give the sector a “sustainable perspective”while half of service voucher companies are currently in the red, according to an economic and financial analysis commissioned from Graydon Creditsafe.
