The fire is now out, but firefighters continue to hose down the area to ensure the fire doesn’t flare up.
Many motorists had called the central 112 to report the fire.
“Along the ring, a fire can cause visibility problems with the smoke. This is why it is important to act quickly,” underlined Walter Derieuw.
A pumper and a tank truck were enough to put out the fire. The work of watering is however still long following the extinction of the flames.
The origin of the fire remains to be determined.
