Asuncion, IP Agency.- Between Monday night and Tuesday morning, a total of 37 people were taken to the shelter set up by the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) on the Costanera Norte of Asunción, where they were provided with blankets and other comforts to take refuge from the cold.
The Jaho’i Operation of the National Emergency Secretariat is currently active due to the low temperatures recorded in recent days.
“This morning we woke up with 37 people in our shelter, 33 men and four women,” said the Minister of the National Emergency Secretariat, Arsenio Zárate.
In addition to the shelter on the Costanera Norte in Asunción, the SEN, in collaboration with a private company, has another shelter operating in the city of Limpio, where, according to him, work is being done “quite well.”
“In the city of Mariano Roque Alonso, the mayor asked us for mattresses and blankets and she manages that shelter,” he said.
As regards the interior of the country, specifically in the department of Amambay, he mentioned that the Government is actively undertaking assistance work for people in vulnerable situations.
“Based on last year’s experience, we had cold days until the middle of September, we still have a month of cold weather. Last year, during that period we mentioned, we had temperatures below 7 degrees,” Zárate explained in an interview with radio station 800 AM.
The numbers to report cases of homeless people exposed to low temperatures are 0986 111 001 and the National Police’s 911.
