Sombreffe: 4,000 people participated in a rave party on New Year’s Eve

A “rave party” organized in Sombreffe (province of Namur) brought together around 4,000 people overnight from Saturday to Sunday, said Etienne Bertrand, the mayor of the town, confirming information from several media.

Thousands of revelers, from Belgium and elsewhere in Europe, have settled in a disused warehouse in the economic activity park of the Economic Office of the Province of Namur. Upon their arrival on Saturday evening, the police from the Samsom area were greeted by throwing projectiles.

Unable to stop the party, other police areas were called in to support the rally, as well as the firefighters in the Val de Sambre area. The proximity of a Seveso-classified company particularly worried the emergency services when fireworks were set off at the start of the new year.

Fortunately, there was no accident. The “rave party” finally ended in the early evening of Sunday, when the revelers decided to cut the music and leave the premises. An investigation is open to try to identify the organizers.
