In her shopping bag, Maria slipped some Coke, milk and even rice. Saturday followingnoon, this cleaning lady took advantage of the “Solidarity Market” organized by the Hmarket supermarket chain and the town of Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) to collect some free food. In total, 20 tonnes of food from stocks that Hmarket will not be able to sell in its stores in time were distributed at the Gros Saule sports complex to several hundred families.
“Since Aldi closed (Editor’s note: the sign burned during the June riots), I have had to go shopping everywhere to find cheap prices. With inflation, it has become difficult to make ends meet,” describes this mother, who is going to a food distribution for the first time.
“With inflation, everything has become complicated”
For Mala, too, it’s a first. “With inflation, everything has become complicated. My purchasing power is declining. So this type of operation is really interesting. I collected milk for the children who consume a lot of it,” says this specialist nursery school worker.
These two mothers did not know Hmarket. It is now done. The brand, which specializes in the sale of halal products and which has nine stores in France, has regularly organized solidarity and festive markets for three years. A way to make yourself known and fight once morest food waste.
Aulnay-sous-Bois, this Saturday. 20 tonnes of food were distributed.
Sports stands, distribution of cotton candy, inflatable games, dance workshops… This Saturday, many families took advantage of the organized activities. The event was even sponsored by rapper Kery James, who came specifically to visit the children. “In the current context, it is important to organize solidarity events. It helps people in need and brightens up the neighborhood,” smiles the artist. “We don’t want people to feel stigmatized when coming to our markets. We want them to remain above all a festive moment that creates social bonds,” underlines Attika Trabelsi, communications director at Hmarket and in charge of the Solidarity component.
The mayor “both happy and unhappy”
“This is the third solidarity market of this type to be organized in Aulnay,” recalls Bruno Beschizza, the mayor (LR) of the town. We are both happy and unhappy. Unfortunate, because when you see the number of people who come, it shows how great the needs are. And happy, because these festive moments allow us to put our neighborhoods, which are a little isolated, back in the heart of the city. » After the new edition of Aulnay, a next market will soon be organized in Mantes-la-Jolie in Yvelines.
