“Soldiers of God” Resurfaces in Tariq Al Jdideh Following Alarming Events

Former advisor to the head of the Future Movement, Saad Hariri, Brigadier General Mahmoud al-Jamal has denied the establishment of groups aimed at achieving self-security in the Tarik al-Jadida area. Al-Jamal emphasized that the rate of thefts has increased in the region and concerns over Prime Minister Hariri’s suspension of his political work have created a vacuum felt across all Lebanese regions.

These incidents have caused youth to call on citizens to be careful and monitor their surroundings. Although the Future Movement helps coordinate with the security forces, there are no intentions to establish armed cells or popular committees. Al-Jamal stressed that the Future Movement respects Prime Minister Hariri’s decision to suspend political action, and they limit their activities to social, health, hospital, and educational services. In an interview with the “Lebanese Debate”, Al-Jamal said: “This issue is incorrect, neither from near nor from afar. There is no decision to establish any similar soldiers of God, nor intentions to establish militia or armed gatherings. He added, “This matter worried people, and in light of Prime Minister Hariri’s suspension of his political work, there is a kind of vacuum that everyone feels in all Lebanese regions.”

Al-Jamal continued, “The high rate of thefts in Beirut, the assaults on people while they are walking on the roads, and the incidents of militancy that occur have led to calls by these youth to the citizens to pay attention, be careful, and monitor the surroundings of the houses and the neighborhood in which they live.”

He explained, “These people have centers in the Future Movement and consider themselves a reference for the people, and they feel that they are in positions of responsibility and trust, and therefore this framework was implemented with the aim of coordinating with the security forces and informing them of any event that takes place, starting with Tarik al-Judaida and ending with all parts of Beirut.”

Al-Jamal went on to say, “There are no intentions to establish armed cells or militia popular committees, and these young men complained to delegations and visited the leaders of the security services from the army and the internal security forces, and they asked for the intensification of patrols in the region and for the various security forces to strengthen their presence to prevent the recurrence of these incidents, and they also demanded from anyone If anything strange is noticed, contact them and inform the security services.”

Regarding the formation of security and judiciary committees, organization and follow-up, and the educational committee, he replied, “These committees are located in the Public Relations Department of the Future Movement in the Beirut Coordination Committee, and there is interaction with the security forces, the Ministry of Education and others to serve people, help them and communicate with them, and what happened is attempts to activate these committees so that people can communicate once more.” with her”.

Al-Jamal stressed that “there is respect for Prime Minister Hariri’s decision to suspend political action, and therefore the future does not undertake any political action, and what it does does not go beyond social, health, hospital and educational services, with the aim of helping.”
